So, what exactly happens in a Trauma-Informed Yoga Class?
We begin first with a friendly introductory chat. When booking this zoom call, you will have filled out a detailed intake form beforehand. We will use this to discuss what you’re looking for in your sessions and how I can best help you.
Then we book in your first 3 sessions. These can be in-person or virtual. At the beginning of each session, we will check in and decide together on the content of the session. Generally we start with some orientation work (to become fully present in the here and now). This is followed by some grounding work to safely bring awareness into the body. We then look at mapping out our emotions. In later stages, we then move to understanding how to self-regulate and balancing the koshas.
At the end of each session, you will be given some practices for in between our meetings to do both on and off the mat. These can be done proactively (to prevent dysregulation) or reactively (to help if you feel triggered). We will bring and use these practises to help inform each subsequent session.
When our first 3 sessions are complete, we will decide together how to proceed, whether we decide to continue working together consistently or on an ad-hoc basis.
I hope this provides some clarity for you about what a Trauma-Informed Yoga Journey looks like. If any of this resonates with you, I sincerely hope to hear from you soon. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to either book into a free introductory call or send me an email at jivanyogawithmaryam@gmail.com
