4 Ways that Trauma-Informed Yoga has Changed my Life
Part of learning how to deliver Trauma-Informed Yoga is to do the exercises on yourself to learn how the process works and feels. For me, the journey has been life-changing. And that’s how I know it will be for you too.
Here’s just a few reasons why:
1. I can tune into my feelings better.
I am able to use the practises learnt to help me check in with myself regularly. Sometimes, even just asking myself how I’m feeling is a simple effective tool of self-care.
2. I know how to quieten the mind.
Becoming present without distractions can be really unsettling sometimes, but learning to do so helps so much with sorting out my thoughts and feelings.
3. I’ve learnt techniques for how to ground myself.
Whenever I’m feeling off or triggered by something, I know how to safely re-center myself. For me, I’ve learnt that Pranayama and butterfly taps on my collar bones are my favourites and work wonders for me.
4. I don’t zone-out as much.
‘Spacing out’ in TIY is called disassociating. You know when you zone-out & do things on auto-pilot or just get so involved in your thoughts that you haven’t a clue what’s going on around you? I think this is so common, especially when you’re going through something difficult, and I’m no exception. I have learnt to be more self-aware and stay present more in what’s happening around me and it has allowed me to experience life so much better.
The journey of Trauma-Informed Yoga is different for everyone. Trauma-Informed Yoga can help you with feelings of brain-fog/zoning out, how to deal with triggers, how to listen better to your thoughts, how to acknowledge your feelings, just to name a few benefits.
